There were anticipations that ASUU could call off the strike after the gathering as the nationwide leader of the union Dr. Nasir Fagge had previously said that calling off

the strike was reliant upon what the government government would place on the table in esteem of the implementation of the 2009 affirmation.

“And then he said that he thinks we should have a sub-committee that will liaise with TETFund and nationwide Planning Commission to get more data on the mechanical

report that was submitted by the desires evaluation managing group and on the cornerstone of that, tasks will be identified and will now gaze for the funding,” he said.

“There is no change any way because the gathering today is just contemplating one aspect of the affirmation, which is funding. So what we did today was to have an inaugural meeting on funding and our constituents territory broad said not anything short of

implementation of all facets of the affirmation will make them call off the hit, so like I said anything meeting we are asked for, we will proceed and give our constituents information”.

Our Educated Girls Will Have No Husbands To Marry By 2023

The National Council Of Catholic Women Organisation of Nigeria, yesterday have encouraged parents to send their male children to school. According to them, most male children are on the streets hawking, while they are supposed to be in school. In the next 10years there would be scarcity of quality husbands in the country.

“The future of this country is going to be very bleak for the male-child. How many girls do you see hawking clothes? Go to Onitsha, they are all men. We have looked round and have come to see that there is a neglect of boys in education. Who are the armed robbers on the streets? They are mostly the boys. Let us concentrate on training boys.

We might soon be faced with a situation where our educated girl-child will not find a corresponding suitable boy-child to marry. This is because more boys drop out of school, apparently because the high rate of unemployed youth discourages our young boys from appreciating the need to be educated.

Quality husbands will become extremely scarce, with too many highly educated women looking for husbands, and settling for anyhow husbands, just to get married. The result of this type of situation is better imagined and will not augur well for Nigerians”, their president stated.

‘I Must Date A Man For 5yrs Before I Marry Him’ – Nollywood Actress

When asked about her marriage plans in an interview with Encomium mag, actress Eniola Badmus said she must date a guy for at least five years before she will consider marrying him. Eniola said:

“What is the point if I marry today and tomorrow it’s over? What’s the essence? I am living my life. I will have a baby when necessary. Marriage is good but what’s the essence of me getting married today and tomorrow I’m not in it? For any man I am going to marry or call my husband we should be together for five years before we walk down the aisle. We may have children but at least after five years I will know that you’re ready for me. Not getting married today, and tomorrow he’s out! I’ve seen it happen to my friends, I don’t want to go through that trauma.

Erm, that you date a guy for five years doesn’t guarantee that the marriage will last…or does it?

SAD:Pakistan TV Show Host Gives Away Babies To Audience... Read The CNN Report

Plumbing new depths in the battle for television ratings, abandoned babies are being given away on a controversial prime-time game show in Pakistan. TV host Aamir Liaquat Hussain presented baby girls to two unsuspecting couples during his show, which is broadcast live for seven hours a day during the month of Ramadan.

"I was really shocked at first. I couldn't believe we were being given this baby girl," said Suriya Bilqees, now a mother of a two-week old. "I was extremely happy." Another baby, a boy, is due to be given to another couple at some point in the coming days.

The show's host has been described as a religious scholar, TV megastar and even a sex symbol.

"At Christmas there's Santa Claus to give everyone gifts, it's important for Christians. For us Ramadan is a really special time so it's really important to make people happy and reward them," said Hussain.

His show -- Aman Ramazan -- has been dubbed Pakistan's version of The Price Is Right, with members of the 500-strong audience receiving prizes in exchange for answering questions on the Quran.

The baby girls given away on the show were found by an NGO, the Chhipa Welfare Association, which says it receives up to 15 abandoned babies a month.

We've created a symbol of peace and love, that's our show's theme -- to spread love. I'm setting an example. Giving a childless couple an abandoned child.

Adoption is not officially recognized in Pakistan and there is no adoption law. The couple will have to apply for guardianship at a family court.

Some viewers praised the show's baby giveaway but others declared it a publicity stunt.

"Pakistan wake up," Shamim Mahmood wrote on the NGO's Facebook page. "Babies are not trophies to be handed to just anyone."

ASUU strike: FG assures of speedy resolution

The Federal Government has admitted its concern about the distortion in the school calendar, assuring on the speedy resolution to end the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). The government said it has engaged the lecturers in ‘serious negotiations’.

It is also worried about the fall-out of the lingering strike and its effect on the students, hence, the urgency to end the industrial action as quickly as possible.

Minister of Information Labaran Maku stated the government’s resolve at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja yesterday, urging parents and the affected students to bear with government and show more understanding as efforts are being made to resolve the issues very soon.

Maku said the Federal Government had indeed been worried since the onset of the strike, particularly as there are always social costs incurred by disruption of academic calendar.

“The Federal Government has been far more worried than you think, concerning the strike in tertiary institutions, because of the disruption of the school calendar and so, government is concerned and very worried and since the onset of the strike, government has been negotiating with ASUU through the Ministries of Labour and Productivity and Education.

“As at today, we know that negotiations are going on and it is our expectation that this strike will not get more protracted and that an understanding will be reached soon enough to enable our students return to school. Government is very worried and concerned every time the school calendar is disrupted, it has its cost to the nation, particularly the idle time our children spend at home can lead to a lot of social difficulties.

“We don’t want school calendars to be disrupted and a lot of series of discussions have been going on and we believe we should record some progress soon enough for these schools to re-open and the Ministers of Labour and Education will be giving briefings on the progress of these negotiations and I know that it has never ceased.

“So, we are appealing to our people, particularly parents and children of this nation, to bear with us, to show more understanding and we pray that this type of strike will not re-occur, because the public school system suffers a lot of damage with the perennial strikes. The universities have been relatively stable since the advent of this administration. The strikes that we inherited, we have tried to resolve them, and if you notice in the last two years, there has not been a lot of strikes until this unfortunate one and I believe we will overcome it and in the end, both parties will appreciate the need to keep the school calendar stable for the progress of our country. So, government is working hard to ensure we reach an agreement to resolve this problem, so that our schools can re-open”.

Meanwhile, FEC has approved a contract of N2.99 billion for the rehabilitation/construction of the Calabar-Ugep section of the Katsina-Ala/Ogoja/Ugep/Calabar Road.

The earlier section of the road which is already 80 per cent complete, was awarded for N4.6 billion, thus bringing the total contract sum for the entire road to N7.5 billion

Minister of State for Works, Bashir Yuguda, explained that the contractor, Piccolo Brunelli, which handled the first phase, was asked to continue with the extension since it was already on site and had done a very good job.

Yuguda recalled that “the first phase of the project aimed at addressing the heavily distressed sections of the road while other sections not captured in the original contract scope of works would be addressed when funds became available.

“This is to ensure that government and the public get the full benefits of the investment made on the roads in terms of improvement of the level of service,” he siad.

The council also considered a memo to provide a template for economic analysis of projects before they are included in the budget for appropriation. According to Maku, this template will also include environmental assessment and will ensure that henceforth, projects must follow the masterplan of the Federal Government’s Transformation Agenda.

Although there is existing assessment, FEC intends the new template to constitute a scientific and thorough analysis of projects, and decided to continue further deliberations on the memo at subsequent meetings of the council.

A FEC committee was also set up to further study the synergy among several factors that come into play in the Public-Private-Partnership involved in power/electricity projects in the country.

Grandmother sells baby for N.2m in Jos

An eight-month-old baby, Chiamaka Obinna, who was allegedly sold by her grandmother for N200,000 and taken from Jos to Onitsha, has been found about one week later and re-united with her mother.

It was gathered that the baby’s grandmother (names withheld), who lived at Rukuba Road by Grafitti Hotel in Jos had on July 19, this year, sent her daughter, who is the mother of the baby on an errand and sent away her other children apparently to pave way for her to dispose of the baby.

Thereafter, some women came to her house and she allegedly gave the baby to them. Unknown to her, some of the neighbours saw her remove the baby from her back and handed her over to the strangers.

When the mother of the baby who gave her name as Blessing Godspower, returned and asked of her baby, her mother feigned ignorance of her whereabouts, saying she must have been taken away by her other children.  But when the grandmother’s other children returned and Chiamaka was not  with them, Blessing raised the alarm.

This attracted the neighbours, who informed that they saw her mother handing over the baby to some people. She denied the claim and the matter was reported to the police.

However, during interrogation,  the suspect allegedly confessed selling the baby to one Eucharia, who had in turn, taken the baby to Awka in Anambra State and sold it to one  Rita for N330,000.

Rita in turn, sold the baby to one Grace for N500,000. The grandmother was said to have told her interrogators that she was yet to receive her share of the illicit deal before the bubble burst.

The state police commissioner in Plateau State, Mr Chris Olakpe said the baby was recovered at Awka on July 24, 2013 through the intelligence of detectives of the command.

He said that upon interrogation, the suspect stated that she sold the baby because her daughter was not taking proper care of her and that she did it with her consent.

But the baby’s mother denied knowledge of the intention to sell her baby, saying as a mother, there was no way she would put up her baby for sale.
