  1. FOOTBALL - CRYSTAL PALACE TEAM NEWS
    Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway will not be able to hand a debut to summer signing Jerome Thomas when the Eagles welcome Tottenham to Selhurst Park for their Premier League curtain-raiser on Sunday.
    The 30-year-old winger suffered an ankle injury in a friendly against Lazio last weekend and is set to be sidelined for at least two weeks.

    However, a host of other new signings could be in line for their competitive debuts with the likes of Marouane Chamakh and Elliott Grandin likely to be involved. Captain Paddy McCarthy (groin) is back in training but will not be ready while Glenn Murray (knee) and Yannick Bolasie (hamstring) are also absent.

    More from Harry Redknapp, discussing QPR's transfer activity as the Championship side continue to be linked with Tottenham's Jermain Defoe.
    He said: "We're nowhere near doing a deal with Defoe. It's just a link. There's nothing happening there at the moment. If [Mark] Hughes and Stoke want [Junior] Hoilett, they'll have to come in with a big offer, because we want to keep him. He's playing very well."

    Hull manager Steve Bruce is expected to blood a host of summer signings when his newly-promoted side take on the might of Chelsea on their return to the Premier League on Sunday.
    Goalkeeper Allan McGregor, defenders Maynor Figueroa and Curtis Davies and strikers Danny Graham and Yannick Sagbo have all been heavily involved in pre-season, while midfield pair Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore go straight into the squad following their arrival from Tottenham this week.
    Republic of Ireland international Stephen Quinn is the only senior player carrying an injury and will miss out with a hamstring complaint.

    Grant Holt
    Striker Grant Holt has said his disappointment with the style of Norwich City manager Chris Hughton's side influenced his departure.
    The 32-year-old brought four successful seasons at Carrow Road to an end by joining Wigan this summer.
    "I think everyone could see I wasn't the person I was for the past three years," he told BBC Radio Norfolk. "On a matchday I wasn't enjoying the way we were playing - we were set up more defensively. I was still enjoying being at the club but I wasn't enjoying the tactics."

    Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio is expected to name the majority of his 10 summer signings in his starting line-up for tomorrow's Premier League season opener against Fulham.
    Jozy Altidore and Emanuele Giaccherini are set to make their competitive debuts while former Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone could get the nod ahead of Keiren Westwood.
    Defender Wes Brown has been ruled out as a precautionary measure after a slight recurrence of a knee complaint, striker Steven Fletcher is also forced to miss the opening game with an ankle injury, while Craig Gardner is suspended.

    Jonathan de Guzman will miss Swansea's Premier League opener against Manchester United tomorrow due to concussion.
    The Dutch midfielder was hurt in a training ground collision with Dirk Kuyt while on international duty and could also miss the first leg of the Europa League play-off against Petrolul Ploiesti.
    Pablo Hernandez and Jonjo Shelvey are available again after their respective groin injury and illness, while Wilfried Bony is set to feature despite only arriving back from Ivory Coast's friendly against Mexico in New Jersey late last night.

    QPR's Spanish midfielder Esteban Granero, 26, has joined Real Socieded on a season-long loan deal.

  12. FOOTBALL - WEST BROM TEAM NEWS
    Nicolas Anelka is set to make his competitive West Brom debut in their Premier League clash with Southampton at The Hawthorns.
    The 34-year-old, scorer of seven pre-season goals for Albion since joining in July, is one of three new faces added to the squad this summer along with fellow striker Matej Vydra and defender Diego Lugano, both of whom could also be involved in the campaign-opening game.
    Wantaway frontman Peter Odemwingie has trained apart from the first team this summer and seems certain not to get a look in, while midfielders Zoltan Gera and George Thorne (both knee) are not yet ready for selection after their injuries.

    Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has urged midfielder James McCarthy to leave Wigan for a Premier League club before the transfer deadline.
    Trapattoni told the Irish Examiner: "James said to me about the possibility of moving club. I wish he could change clubs because the Championship is different. The Premier League has another quality, top quality."

    Football League chairman Greg Clarke said there have been times he thought Coventry City would cease to exist.
    Coventry City FC Ltd, a non-operating subsidiary of the club, went into administration in March following a row with Arena Coventry Limited over rent. CCFC Ltd now faces liquidation, but the club will continue to operate.
    "We sailed so close to the edge with Coventry City there were times I thought there'd be no Coventry City," he told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire.

    Jose Mourinho tells the Sun that he wants Chelsea to be a "family" after the turmoil that dominated Rafael Benitez's reign last season.

    Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has branded the re-scheduling of his side's Premier League trip to Chelsea "unfair" and suggested they have suffered because they are not one of the so-called big teams.
    Lambert is unimpressed that the fixture has been moved to next Wednesday evening due to the Blues' involvement in the UEFA Super Cup later this month.
    It means his men meet Arsenal on Saturday before travelling to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, a few days before taking on Liverpool the following Saturday.

    Cardiff manager Malky Mackay tells BBC Radio 5 live that the Welsh capital is full of anticipation for the start of the Premier League campaign, with the Bluebirds travelling to West Ham tomorrow.
    He said: "People are desperately looking forward to the season starting. To have Premier League football coming is fantastic.
    "We just want to be competitive, we're going to be organised, fit and disciplined and we deserve to be there. It's unforgiving and it will be tough because the fans have been used to winning for two years. Everyone here has been talking about the Swansea game and that will be a fantastic occasion on both games."

    New Manchester United manager David Moyes will be glad when the Premier League season starts so he can stop talking about Wayne Rooney.
    "It's part of the job and I understand he is someone everybody wants to discuss," Moyes said.
    "I have to answer it the best I can but we will all be glad once the season is started. We want to get the season under way. When we get the games going the focus will hopefully shift from the off-field stuff we have at the moment."
